BJP Dominates Gujarat Elections as Congress Falls and Samajwadi Party Rises
Gujarat - In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured 60 out of 68 municipalities in Gujarat's recent local body elections, further strengthening its hold on the state. The party also won all three taluka panchayats, reinforcing its dominance while dealing a major blow to the Congress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the results as a triumph of development-focused governance, thanking voters for their continued support. BJP leaders credited the victory to Modi's leadership, strategic planning, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s administration. The party expanded its reach by gaining 14 more municipalities compared to previous elections, cementing its control over Gujarat's political landscape.
A surprising turn of events saw the Samajwadi Party (SP) emerge as a new force in the state. Under the leadership of its lone Gujarat MLA, Kandhal Jadeja, the SP captured two municipalities—Kutiyana and Ranavav in Porbandar district. This unexpected success marks a breakthrough for the SP in a region traditionally dominated by BJP and Congress.
Meanwhile, Congress suffered a crushing setback, winning only one municipality—Salaya in Devbhumi Dwarka district. The party’s declining influence raises concerns about its future in Gujarat. Congress leaders admitted the need for structural improvements despite minor seat gains in certain areas.
