Dark Obsession with Superstition in India The Horrifying Reality of Ritual Sacrifices

Bihar - In a shocking case that has reignited debates on superstition and blind faith, a woman in Bihar, along with three others, has been arrested for the ritualistic sacrifice of a toddler. The gruesome act, allegedly carried out under the advice of an exorcist, was believed to help her daughter conceive a child. This horrifying crime exposes the disturbing reality that, despite India’s progress, deep-rooted superstitions continue to claim innocent lives.

Authorities say the toddler was kidnapped, subjected to a ritual, and sacrificed in a misguided belief that supernatural forces would grant fertility. This act is not an isolated event. Across India, cases of human sacrifice linked to black magic surface with alarming regularity. From Uttar Pradesh to Kerala, children and adults alike have fallen victim to similar rituals, often at the hands of their own families or community members.

While laws against such practices exist—Maharashtra and Karnataka have anti-superstition laws—many states lack stringent enforcement. The persistence of these brutal acts calls for a nationwide crackdown, stricter legal measures, and grassroots efforts to eradicate dangerous beliefs. Schools, religious leaders, and community organizations must play a vital role in promoting rationality and scientific awareness.

India stands at a crossroads. Will we continue to let superstition dictate life and death, or will we finally break free from the chains of ignorance? The choice is ours, but the cost of inaction is too high to ignore.
