Sam Pitroda Controversy Sparks Political Firestorm as Congress Rushes to Control Damage
Delhi - In a startling turn of events, Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, has ignited a political maelstrom with his recent comments on India's diversity. During an interview, Pitroda remarked, "We could hold a country together as diverse as India, where people on the east look like Chinese, people on the west look like Arabs, people on the north look like, maybe, white and people in the south look like Africans."
These comments have been widely condemned as racially insensitive and divisive. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his disgust, stating, "I am absolutely disgusted by the remarks of the senior Congress leader... His remarks are racist and in very poor taste."
The backlash extended beyond the central leadership. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media, asserting, "Sam bhai, I am from the North East and I look like an Indian. We are a diverse country—we may look different, but we are all one."
In response to the mounting criticism, the Congress party swiftly distanced itself from Pitroda’s remarks. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated, "The analogies drawn by Mr. Sam Pitroda... are most unfortunate and unacceptable. The Indian National Congress completely dissociates itself from these analogies."
