Stunning Political Upset: BJP Shatters AAP Stronghold in Delhi After 27 Years

Delhi - In a political earthquake that has sent shockwaves through the nation's capital, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clinched a decisive victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, ending the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) decade-long reign. This marks the BJP's return to power in Delhi after a 27-year hiatus.  

The BJP secured 47 out of 70 seats, a significant leap from its previous tally of eight seats in the 2020 elections. In contrast, AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, managed to win only 22 seats, a dramatic decline from its earlier dominance.  

This victory is particularly noteworthy given the BJP's previous struggles to gain a foothold in Delhi's legislative assembly. Analysts attribute the party's success to a combination of strategic campaigning, promises of welfare initiatives, and a focus on governance. The BJP's manifesto included pledges such as the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, offering ₹2,500 per month to women, and increased pensions for senior citizens, which resonated with a broad spectrum of voters.  

Arvind Kejriwal, who has been a prominent figure in Delhi politics, faced significant challenges leading up to the election, including legal battles and allegations of corruption. His arrest in March 2024 on charges related to the Delhi liquor policy case marked a turning point, leading to a decline in public support.  

The BJP's return to power in Delhi not only signifies a shift in the city's political landscape but also serves as a testament to the party's resilience and adaptability. As the new government takes the reins, all eyes will be on how the BJP fulfills its electoral promises and addresses the challenges facing the national capital.
