Teen Trapped in 540-Foot Borewell in Gujarat: Rescue Efforts Continue

Gujarat - In a tragic event that has captured national attention, an 18-year-old girl from Kanderai village in Gujarat’s Kutch district accidentally fell into a 540-foot borewell on Monday morning. The incident occurred while she was working in an agricultural field with her family, who are migrant laborers from Rajasthan. She is currently trapped at a depth of 490 feet, making the rescue operation extremely challenging.  

Rescue Operations in Progress

Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Border Security Force (BSF), and local authorities have been working tirelessly for over 24 hours to save the girl. Oxygen is being supplied to her through pipes to ensure her survival. However, reports indicate that she has shown no movement since the fall, raising concerns about her condition.  

The narrow diameter of the borewell, only one foot wide, combined with the depth at which the girl is lodged, has made the rescue mission exceedingly complex. Specialized drilling equipment and advanced techniques are being utilized to dig a parallel shaft, but progress has been slow due to the rocky terrain.

This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by uncovered borewells. It comes just days after the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in Rajasthan, who fell into a similar borewell. These repeated incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter regulations and safety measures to secure open borewells across the country.
