Tirupati Laddu Scandal: CBI Detains Four in Ghee Adulteration Plot

Andhra Pradesh- In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained four individuals in connection with the alleged adulteration of ghee used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus. This action follows a Supreme Court directive for a comprehensive investigation into claims that animal fats were used in the ghee, potentially compromising the sanctity of the sacred prasadam.

The controversy erupted in September 2024 when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had used substandard ingredients, including animal fats, in the preparation of Tirupati laddus. This led to widespread concerns among devotees and prompted the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations. The Supreme Court later intervened, ordering an independent SIT comprising officials from the CBI, Andhra Pradesh Police, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to conduct the investigation under the supervision of the CBI Director.

The recent detentions indicate that the investigation is progressing, with authorities taking action against those implicated in the alleged adulteration.
