Violence in Islamabad: 5 killed during protest in support of Imran Khan
Islamabad - Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan demonstrated his political strength while in jail in Islamabad. Pakistan is upset by the movement of supporters demanding the release of the leader. Meanwhile, protests against Islamabad have turned violent. Imran's wife Bushra Bibi led the movement, and 5 soldiers were killed in the clash. The administration has deployed additional soldiers to control the situation. Considering the situation, the administration has also issued orders for firing on the spot. Overall, concern is increasing in Pakistan.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and supporters on Sunday started a protest march toward the capital under the leadership of Imran's wife Bushra Bibi. The procession reached Islamabad on Monday evening. When the protesters decided to advance, the army was brought down. According to sources of news agency PTI, after this Imran's supporters clashed with the police and security personnel. Protesters shot dead a policeman. Four more security personnel were killed.
According to local media sources, several other people were injured in the clash. Many cars were burnt. Tear gas was released to control the situation. Even the Pak Army has issued instructions to shoot Imran supporters at sight.
Imran Khan has been accused in several cases since being ousted from the 2022 election after losing the no-confidence vote. Many serious charges including terrorism have been levelled against him. However, Imran Khan's party has been claiming from the beginning that these allegations are politically motivated. Imran Khan was arrested in May 2023. After this, Imran has been in jail for more than a year. There are more than 150 criminal cases registered against him.
