HR Smith Group Denies Allegations of Supplying Sensitive Technology to Russia
British aerospace manufacturer HR Smith Group has strongly refuted allegations made in a recent New York Times report, which accused the company of transferring sensitive technology to a blacklisted Russian agency through an Indian state-run enterprise. The company categorically dismissed the claims as "entirely false," emphasizing its strict adherence to global export regulations.
In a statement, an HR Smith Group spokesperson stressed that the company takes its supply chain obligations "extremely seriously" and follows all relevant export controls. "These allegations made by The New York Times are entirely false. HR Smith Group maintains rigorous supplier oversight and supply chain monitoring to uphold the highest standards of compliance," the spokesperson asserted.
The report alleged that HR Smith Group supplied technology via Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a government-owned aerospace company in India, which was then transferred to an entity linked to supplying weapons to Russia. However, sources have dismissed these accusations, defending both HR Smith Group and HAL against what they describe as misleading claims.
HR Smith Group clarified that the alleged products exported to India were intended for use in a satellite-based search and rescue network, which aids life-saving operations across land, sea, and air. "These products are not designed for military use," the company emphasized, challenging any suggestion that they were part of a defense-related transaction.
Additionally, the company highlighted that it was not presented with any evidence to support the claim that its technology had been redirected to Russia. It reaffirmed its commitment to compliance with international laws and regulations governing defense and dual-use exports. The allegations have stirred controversy, with many questioning the credibility of the claims made against HR Smith Group and HAL. As the issue unfolds, both companies continue to maintain their stance against any wrongdoing while reiterating their dedication to ethical business practices.
